Obituary

Thomas Curtis Childs ,
born November 22, 1951, passed away February 18, 2022 at OSU Medical Center with his daughters, Sara and Haley, at his side. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Harriet Childs, and wife Judith Eddy Childs. Survived by wife LeaAnn Rich Childs; children Sara Childs Orlos (Mike), Haley Childs Carter (Dan), Brandy and Kelly Childs; step-children Carrie Holland (Nik), Erica Smith (Jesse), Aaron, Brandon and Tori Kelley; as well as 3 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren; sisters Donna Shockey (Mike), Sally Spooner, and Cheryl Sharp; and many extended family members.
Throughout his life,Tom could never be found far from a stack of books (being read simultaneously), some Pink Floyd music, and a chessboard or two. For the majority of his career, Tom (known by most friends and coworkers as "Chico") worked at the famous JaiLai Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio; rising from butcher in the early 70's, to chef, manager, and part-owner before it eventually closed in 1996. At age 63 he retired from DAPS, a printing facility for the US Defense Logistics Agency, and from there spent most of his free time reading, and enjoying being "PawPaw" for his beloved grandsons; Leland and Quinton, and newest grandson, Elliott. Tom also enjoyed photography, capturing countless wonderful family moments over the decades, as well as the beauty of nature while he'd be out on walks. He had a sharp sense of humor, was always full of stories, and will be deeply missed by all those lucky enough to have known him.
A celebration of life will be held for Tom at a date to be determined in Spring. The family will hold a private graveside service at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio. Arrangements by O'Shaughnessey Co.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation ( www.komen.org ) or to OSU James Cancer Research. (give.osu.edu)
