June L. Burch Johnson, 88, went peacefully to her heavenly home Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Co-owner of Johnson's Oakland Market with husband Roger K. Johnson, who preceded her in death. During WW II, after scoring outstanding marks on a battery of civil service tests, June moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the War Production Board, Iron and Steel Division, for 4 years. While there, she studied drama at Catholic University under the tutelage of Pulitzer Prize-winning theater critic Walter Kerr and his playwright wife, Jean Kerr. An active member of St. Patrick Parish, she is survived by daughters, Carla (Dale) Shorts, Denise Johnson, Terry (Mike) Buscemi, Rita Johnson; sons, Mark (Vicki) Johnson, Derek (Michele) Johnson, Garth (Effie) Johnson, Chris Johnson; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Crystal Burch Palmer; many nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends at John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 W. 5th Ave., Sunday, March 18, from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, St. Patrick Church, 280 N. Grant Ave. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High St. Procession will form at church.
