GINTHER
Jeffrey David Ginther passed away peacefully June 28, 2021 after a long illness. Jeff was born April 15, 1947 in Painesville, Ohio, to Ellen Morrison Ginther and James Edward Ginther. Growing up in the Akron area, he married his high school sweetheart Normalee McMullen December 30, 1967. Honorably serving his country, he received life-threatening combat injuries in the central highlands of Vietnam in 1969. After recovering from his injuries, Jeff earned his JD from the University of Denver and began his law career in Columbus.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Hiram College. Jeff and Norma cared for their own family, as well as over 50 foster children during 25 years. Norma was a fierce child advocate, while Jeff's quiet strength provided the stability necessary for a well-balanced household. In addition to parenting their four children and the foster children, they dedicated their careers to social justice, protecting children and the vulnerable, and changing the political systems in place that care for those in need in our society. They were a marvelous example to all who knew them and made an enormous impact on the lives of many people.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Norma, and is survived by his children; Kent (April) Woodward-Ginther of Gambier, Anne of Columbus, Andrew (Shannon) of Columbus, and Emily (Jason) Ginther of Columbus, several grandchildren, and one brother, Gregory (Carole) Ginther of West Salem. A private service will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the Faith Mission Homeless Veterans Program: https://lssnetworkofhope.org/donate/ . There is a section that can be used for tribute gifts. Checks can also be mailed to LSS, 500 W Wilson Bridge Road, Suite 245, Worthington, OH 43085.
