Jane B. Leighty, 85 years old, passed away peacefully April 1, 2010, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Her loving husband of 33 years, Bob Leighty, passed away in 1993. Surviving are her son, Bob Leighty Jr. (Bobby), Bob's wife Sharon Santilli Leighty (Deedee), and their son Joshua Santilli and his partner M'Lou Mackay. Also surviving are her sister, Pauline Olson, her weekly caller cousin Eileen Kirby and numerous other cousins and relatives and friends, including friends from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania who kept in touch with Jane in Ohio. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Weidmann and Trescenna (Laino) Weidmann, and her brother, Rev. Msgr. Joseph Weidmann. Jane was an avid reader, and she always had a supply of books on hand to give away to young children. She was also interested in art, crafts, music, her family's genealogy, and writing letters and sending and receiving cards. Jane enjoyed her recent years living in Columbus, and her fond memories of living in Altoona and Hollidaysburg. Jane was the inspiration for her son's community work with nonprofit organizations, and in particular she was very proud of his volunteer work with the South Side Learning & Development Center and Merion Village Association, and his career with the nonprofit Economic and Community Development Institute. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 9 from 6 - 8 p.m., at PLANK, STITT, & STEVENS FUENRAL HOME, 421 N. Montgomery St. Hollidaysburg, (PA). Funeral Mass 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, PA, with her cousin, Rev. Fr. Paul M. Robine as Presider. Burial, Calvary Cemetery, 2417 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA. A local celebration of Jane's life (conversation, pizza, and cherry pie, three of her favorite things) will be in the chapel of the Westminster Thurber Community, 717 Neil Ave., Columbus, (OH) 43215, on Wednesday, April 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be mailed to: South Side Learning and Development Center, Jane Leighty Fund for Children, 255 Reeb Avenue, Columbus, (OH) 43207.
