Obituary

GIL MATHEW YAP

November 23, 1968 – March 4, 2022

Gil Yap, a caring son, brother, uncle, cousin and beloved friend of so many, left this world on March 4, 2022 at age 53, surrounded by his family.

A native of Toledo, Ohio and the proud son of Dr. Antonio and Nilza Yap, Gil graduated from St. John's High School and the University of Michigan.

His natural compassion for others and his devotion to family guided his life choices as a son who cared selflessly for his parents and found happiness in sharing their daily lives. Despite his own struggles as a dialysis patient, his pleasing personality touched everyone he met.

He had a career in property management but most of his free moments were spent providing a helping hand to those in need.

Gil was a master in the kitchen, taking the greatest pleasure in creating gourmet meals and a welcoming environment for his family and friends. Guests would gather around the dinner table for succulent delights and relive his tales of childhood vacations on Kiawah Island and his travels to the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. Many relied on his shopping advice and uncanny ability to find the best deals on any object.

He shone the brightest when spoiling his three nephews with video games, pizza and boundless love.

Gil is survived by his sisters, Antoinette (and Mark) Wilson and Yvonne Donaldson; his brother, Eric Yap; and his nephews, Alec, Carter and Hunter, as well as many adoring cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Antonio and Nilza Yap, and his brother-in-law, Allan Donaldson.

A private memorial service is scheduled in Columbus, Ohio for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National Kidney Foundation (www. kidney.org ) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ( www.stjude.org ) on his behalf. Arrangements by O'SHAUGHNESSY CO., call 614-221-2311 with any questions.
